Multi-Site Regional Safety Director

Our client is a successful and growing regional, industrial leader. We are seeking a proactive, prevention-focused, data-savvy, collaborative, Safety Director to provide safety leadership across the organization's multi-state, multi-site locations in the Northeast US. Reporting to the Operations Leader, the Safety Director is responsible for ensuring that effective safety training programs are available and implemented at all locations. The position is responsible for DOT and OSHA Compliance, Worker's Compensation, Vehicle Maintenance, Policy implementation, and compliance with the all required state and federal regulations. The role collects and analyzes data from various sources for use in developing proactive safety programs and leads a team of safety professionals who focus on data tracking, reporting and keeping current with existing safety regulations. The Safety Director directs and manages the company's overall safety program, working in close partnership with the company's Finance, Operations and Human Resources leadership. The role provides effective and visible leadership to employees, field safety managers and front line managers in the design, implementation and monitoring of safety systems, programs and risk management. The ideal candidate will have prior multi-state and multi-site Safety experience in a Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Operations, Logistics or Transportation organization. Exceptional collaboration, influencing, communication and demonstrated credibility as a Safety Professional required. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Develop and implement the company's strategy for reducing and preventing occupational injuries, accidents and liability claims. Proactively identify opportunities to further minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health risks. Oversee company-wide safety and ensure safety practice uniformity across all company locations. Provide direction and supervision to a distributed team of field safety managers. Analyze relevant data and collaborate with management to develop and implement safety / operational standards, procedures, policies, systems and programs to improve the company's industry safety / compliance standards. Conduct safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations. Oversee all work related injuries including first aid and worker's compensation claims by working with Field Managers to conduct thorough investigations, reporting and claims monitoring. Manage the company's safety systems and vendors with a constant goal of improvement and simplification. Oversee all Certified Employee Training Program (CETP) programs for the Company. Conduct employee training on applicable safety standards. Regularly review safety training and recommend revisions, improvements, and updates. Provide engineering and technical support to field employees to resolve safety-related site issues and related capital improvements. Provide technical and administrative support to the safety committee. Oversee all DOT compliance / regulations including Driver Qualification Files, ELD Compliance, Motor Vehicle Accidents and Vehicle Maintenance of the company's commercial vehicle fleet. Provide ongoing support to the Finance team for all Risk Management renewals and programs. Maintain and manage all aspects of Certificate of Insurance requirements as needed. Maintain in-depth knowledge of all relevant state safety and federal OSHA requirements to mitigate risks and ensure compliance. Assist and manage up-to-date knowledge of NFPA 54 & 58. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules and completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting. Establish credibility throughout the organization with management and employees as an proactive, collaborative and effective Safety professional. Maintain confidentiality and high ethical standards. POSITION LOCATION:
Onsite location-based role in Westchester, NY. Regular travel required to various company locations in the Northeast US. POSITION REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:
Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene or related field required. 5
years of occupational health and safety experience in an industrial environment such as Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Operations, Logistics or Transportation required. Relevant safety certifications such as Safety Management Specialist (SMS), Safety Trained Supervisor (STS), Advanced Safety Certificate (ASC), Certified Safety Manager (CSM), Safety Director Certificate (SDC), Licensed Safety Professional (LSP) or Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM). Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or Class A/B CDL with Hazmat endorsement a plus. Extensive knowledge of current safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Demonstrated ability to effectively deliver and assess training programs. Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills with prior experience managing field safety professionals. Ability to understand, interpret and apply data, appropriate laws, guidelines, and policies in decision-making. Demonstrated ability to learn the business quickly, understand key safety issues and develop solutions with business leaders that get results and foster a positive work environment. Highly trusted as a professional and ethical safety professional in handling confidential and sensitive information. Able to build trust with managers, employees and team members. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and influencing communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) software.
